Canada is still struggling to have an online gambling public policy. Ten years ago this country had the opportunity to get into a billion dollar industry, but they didn’t take it. Joe Norton, a former Kahnawake Grand Chief revealed that Kahnawake offered an opportunity to Canada and the province of Quebec to be a partner with theirs, specifically in a venture which could become the largest online gaming hosting facility in the world.
Norton claims that there could have been a relationship between Quebec and Kahnawake but the document to make this happen hasn’t been signed.

At the Canadian Gaming Summit, Norton said that the Kahnawake has been clear with the both governments, the national and the provincial one. Both governments decided that just Quebec has the competence over the gambling, also if this has never been really tested in a court.

Since then, almost 10 years, the MIT (Mohawk Internet Technology) operates without any provincial interference.

Joe Norton tries to find an acknowledgment under the Canadian constitution that would recognize that gambling is a legitimate aboriginal activity.
